In 2012, after years of love and appreciation for antique and classic cars, I turned my hobby into a full-time business; The Zimmlitt Motoring Company LLC.
Growing up, it was obvious that the family addiction to cars would be passed on to me. Whether it was shadowing my dad at home or joining my uncle at Rolls Royce and Bentley shows, I could never get enough.
Prior to college I spent a year in Germany and completed the German mechanical engineering “Practicum”. This is a training program which includes welding, metal forging, mill and lathe training, pipefitting and metal fabrication. This is a pre-requisite for any student planning to study mechanical engineering in a German university.
In college I continued with my interest of all things mechanical and earned a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Columbia University.
After starting my first job I moved into a small apartment. Without a garage or space to work I was soon longing for something to do when I was not at work. I found a local classic boat restoration company and soon began working for them as their engine specialist in the evenings and Saturdays. Sundays were spent restoring a classic boat of my own (1941 Chris Craft Runabout). Since then there have always been projects keeping me occupied, whether boats, cars or even tractors.
In 2012 after multiple requests from people to maintain or restore their cars I decided to do what I had always wanted to do. I opened The Zimmlitt Motoring Company and have not looked back. My mechanical engineering degree and varied experiences have allowed me to tackle most any problem and while doing what I love.
The term Zimmlitts was coined by a close friend as a description of my children…the little Zimmermanns.
