The 1953 MGTD is a beautiful car that had been restored a few years ago. The owner drives the car regularly and had noticed that the doors were no longer closing and latching the way that they should.
We found that the original brass hinges had not been replaced during the restoration. They were now so loose that the doors had begun to sag, making it difficult for them to latch correctly. We replaced the hinges and realigned the doors and latches to restore proper operation. The hinges had been held in place with screws of varying styles and sizes. We removed all the old hardware and installed new machine screws and wood screws as originally intended. Some holes were drilled out and filled with hardwood plugs. This allowed us to allow us to drill holes of the correct size in the proper locations to match the new hinges. Aluminum and brass shims were manufactured as needed.
The owner also ask that we correct a number of oil leaks that had developed. New gaskets were installed on the side and valve covers as well as new crush washers on the external oil lines and pump. We also replaced the front engine main oil seal and installed a rear main seal conversion kit. The engine was then run on our engine test stand to confirm all the leaks had been resolved prior to installing it back in the car.
