The 1932 Alvis Beetleback Roadster is an ongoing project. The engine suffered a leak many years ago allowing water to enter the cylinders and crank case. The engine has been disassembled, new babbit has been poured on all bearing surfaces, a new cam shaft and crank shaft have been sourced and the valve train rebuilt.
The Alvis engine was badly corroded where the water had been allowed to enter. Years of dampness within the valve train and crankcase has left a mark. Each piece of the engine has been carefully cleaned, examined and tested for cracks and other defects. Everything is ready for final assembly.
Update: Work continues on the drivetrain; the front and rear axles have been rebuilt with new bearings, bushings and brakes. The steering box and linkages have been refurbished. The gearbox has been rebuilt as well as the Hartford shocks. The next step is to strip the remainder of the chassis and then begin the installation of all the completed drive components.
